Far Infrared Saunas

far infrared sauna

A relatively new type of sauna has emerged recently. This new sauna uses infrared heaters instead of traditional wood, electric or gas. Unlike traditional saunas infrared heaters only heat the people and objects - not the air.

Proponents of infrared saunas say that they have even more therapeutic properties than traditional saunas.

Tip! Clocks are a sauna accessories that can be very useful. Though not every unit comes with them, they can still be a great addition to your sauna experience.

Infrared is a frequency band of light that is invisible to humans. The heat is sometimes called Infrared Radiation (IR) and is different than the Ultraviolet Radiation that causes sunburn. Most of the heat from the sun that warms the earth is IR.

Health Benefits

Infrared saunas generate no steam and are not effective at relieving breathing problems. When it comes to building up a sweat and easing the pain of arthritis, though, infrared saunas are equal to traditional saunas. Proponents of IR say that it penetrates deeper into internal organs and muscular tissues to even more effectivly release toxins and strengthen the immune system.

Advantages

There are a number of advantages of infrared saunas over steam saunas. They operate at a lower temperatures and some people find them more comfortable than regular saunas. The lower heat also means less electricity consumption, so IR saunas are cheaper to operate. Infrared saunas also heat up much faster than conventional saunas, saving time and further reducing costs.

Infrared saunas don't use any water. This makes them more portable, easier to install and reduces the problems of bacterial build-up that can occur in damp areas.

Disadvantages

Some people say that the lack of steam in an IR saunas does not provide the feelings of relaxation and refreshment of a conventional sauna. Steam can be useful for relieving respiratory problems, but on the other hand, the normally dry air of the sauna is uncomfortable for some people to breathe.
