- Even surrounded by moist steam it is possible to dehydrate from excessive sweating in a steam shower. Be sure to drink lots of water after leaving your shower.
- Heavy meals, and steam bathing don't go well together. Drugs and alcohol should likewise not be combined with steam bathing.
- Individuals that may be particularly prone to problems in the steam bath include the elderly, young children, and pregnant women. Your doctor will be able to determine if you need to stay away from steam showers.
- Preexisting medical problems- A steam Bath has an effect on your body. In most cases this is a beneficial effect however it is possible that the effects may be negative. The increased heat of the environment will increase your metabolism and stimulate your cardiovascular system. For most of us this is a good thing but if blood pressure, heart disease or other cardiovascular issues are a concern for you, be sure to consult your doctor before using a steam shower.
- It is possible to loose a considerable amount of weight in a steam shower. However this weight loss comes from the water that you sweat out. It is not healthy to loose too much water, so this should not be used as part of a major weight loss program. The unfortunate fact is that it would be ineffective anyway since the lost weight will quickly return when your body fluids are replenished.
